In 1953, after Her Majesty’s Coronation in London, The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh made a tour of Scotland, in the course of which they attended a National Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication at St Giles Cathedral at the conclusion of which the Honours of Scotland were presented to the new Sovereign. The National Library of Scotland has a fine silent film of the occasion in its collection. Look out in the early part of the film for a young Malcolm Innes, later, of course a distinguished Lord Lyon himself, who is the page to his father, Sir Thomas Innes of Learney, Lord Lyon King of Arms.

One of the Lord Lyon’s duties is to be Honorary President of the Society of Messengers-at-Arms and Sheriff Officers. This short film about the Lyon Office was commissioned by the Society for its meeting in 2018 .
